somekindofhappening Like doing the dishes on Mars, becoming other confronts British banalities with an astral dirge. It is also a nostalgic yearn. There is and always has been limitless potential in us all. Favorite track: listening when.

about

In 'becoming other', field recordings, electroacoustic sound, samples, synthesis, and digital processing converge to suggest an environmental entanglement of hybrid sound objects emerging through sonic situations. The EP draws on the idea of being understood as a mode of becoming and proposes listening as an ethical mechanism for negotiating otherness, both human and non-human.

The EP's title points to two influences. First, the idea of "becoming" stems from Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari's work, in which being is in a state of flow or flux. This concept speaks to the nature of time-based media and specifically to sound as an artistic form, where audio material is produced as waves that physically interact with the body, shaping and shifting experience.

Second is the idea of "other,"  drawn from Emmanuel Levinas. The other is always situated outside our own experience and therefore should be respected, accepted, and understood as such. Here, otherness inhabits people, animals, objects, or even waveforms, where ambiance and milieu are situated as liberatory planes of ethical and aesthetic encounter. Field recordings become traces, revealing ghostly moments and crystallising in new sonic spaces. When listening with our environment, audio recordings take on a sonic ecology, and the act of listening becomes an ethical negotiation of the world around us.
